It should be the last league weekend of the season this week, but the Beast from the East 2 cut short a lot of teams double headers last weekend, so please look out of your rearrange fixtures in the next couple of weeks.
Last Training Session is tomorrow between 8-9pm. The turn out last week was amazing for the end of the season. More ladies then men in attendance, come on lads, in the words of Delia Smith ‘where are you!’
Awards Night isn’t that far away, 2 weeks!! Trophy’s are on order. We need your donations for raffle prizes and if anyone want to build a playlist this year, please shout.
Here is the match reports from last weekend and this weekends fixtures.
Ladies 1s v Bournville Ladies 2s, WON 2-0
Match Report by Carol
A bitterly cold afternoon match at the Doug Ellis Sports Centre, the snow came down, the lines became invisible, the snow and sand clogged and the ball wouldn’t roll. We however were 1 nil up and were fairly determined not to abandon, the opposition not surprisingly were very much keener to call it a day. I tried to convince the umpires that it was just a passing snow storm, strangely they bought that rather weak argument and let us play on. We finished the match winning 2 – 0. Both goals coming from Sophie Brown. We were more commanding than the score line reflected but the oppositions goalie was very good. Jayne Harper in our goal paid £10 for one kick of the ball! The dream lives on to Bromsgrove next week
Mens 1s v Yardley, WON 3-0
Match Report by Steve Jones
Having played and beaten bottom of the table Yardley three times already this season, we were hoping for another solid win to maintain our third place position in the league. As soon as our captain had realised we weren’t playing in blue, borrowing white socks from his brother, we were ready to go!
Kings Heath got off to a good start creating chances straight away and pressing the opposition’s 16 yard hits well. It wasn’t until midway through the half that the breakthrough was made. Nick popped up in the middle of the D and got a good reverse stick shot past the floundering Yardley goalkeeper; his first goal for the 1s!
We kept peppering the Yardley D throughout half to no avail. The Yardley goalkeeper was proving difficult to beat (although we have given him plenty of practice over the season!). Half time came with the score still at 1-0.
The second half started in the same way as the first; we had a lot of possession, but not much to show for it. Yardley’s only chances came through our mistakes and lack of fight on the ball. The longer it went without a goal, the more frustrating it got. However, a well worked short corner (about our 6th of the game!) resulted in a great goal by Chicken, deflecting the ball in at the back post.
Chicken played a crucial role in the third goal too. Josh meandered (as fast as he could!) into the D from the right. Chicken was unmarked in the middle of the D screaming for the pass. Josh had other ideas though and didnt give him the ball. While the defence was distracted by Chicken’s complaints, Jeeves slotted the ball in at the back post to make it 3-0.
Overall a good win for Kings Heath. The defence were solid, conceding only one short corner and keeping a fourth clean sheet against Yardley this season. Special mentions go to Nick for his first goal for us, his brother Tom for his 1s debut and Graham for umpiring his first game for us; all did us proud!
Ladies 2s v Stourport Ladies 5s, LOST 6-0
Match Report by Jackie
This week saw the Ladies 2s in a battle against the elements as much as the opposition. With fielding only 8 players from the start we managed to hold off the opposition from scoring until 2 late arrivals joined us within 10 mins of pb.
Kings Heath had an off day this week. Had a fair amount possession but unable to capitalise or score.
We ended on a 6-0 defeat to Stourport on a bitterly cold morning.
Mens 2s v Shrewsbury, LOST 1-2
No match report submitted. Come on lads, there must be a scribe in the team!
Mens 3s MATCH CANCELLED
Match Report by Mat Minshall
Saturday – availability was stretched so unfortunately 3s could not field a side on Saturday.
Sunday – beast from the east snow forced game to be rescheduled and mini beast snow cancelled it again.
Badgers v Atherstone Vipers MATCH ABANDONED
Match Report by Jez HIGGINS
Atherstone have two sides in the Badgers conference this year, and so we’ve hosted them twice at Woodrush. Our first opportunity to visit them, back in January, was cancelled due to snow about 2 and half hours before push back. This Saturday we carried on an almost constant dialogue with them through the day, and while we shivered at Woodrush, they seemed to be maintain an island of relative warmth around their astro. Until we were actually on the way, when the snow came down and we were turned around about 45 minutes before push back.
Thanks to everyone who tried to get there, especially those giving lifts.
